End of summer...

I know that I haven't posted much on this blog recently. It seems as if time is just flying by. Just the other day, school was letting out, I was travelling to see my family, the 4th of July weekend was in full swing... it seemed as if the whole summer lay ahead of us. At that time - it did! Alas, now summer is drawing to an end and school is about to be back in session. I am going to my Munchkins school tonight for "Meet the Teachers" night and classes begin on Monday (much to his dismay). I guess that this was a decent summer overall.
I know I said that I would post more pics after I visited my family on vacation, but being the slacker that I am - I still haven't gotten around to it. Until now!! We really did have a great time visiting my family!

As a short narrative to the pictures - here is our vacation in a nutshell:
We got on the road early for the LONG (12 hour) drive, but my Munchkin brought along his distraction - which helped pass the time (for him anyways). We got to our destination and I got to meet my new niece for the first time! Such a cutie!!! We took my Grandmother out for an early breakfast one morning so she got a chance to be with both of her GREAT-Grandkids at the same time! Then we made another short trip up to the cabin where we went for walks and fed the fish in the pond. We got to play with Papa's toy too!! We finally got all of the cousins together for the first time since the baby was born. I had such a good time. I just wished that we all lived closer together and could do this more often.
That was the vacation part of the summer (one week in June).
July was spent at home. My Munchkin got to spend time with his friends and goof off just like kids are supposed to. I worked as usual. I would love to have summers and holidays off again like I did as a child.
August was spent (so far) pretty much the same way. Not much happening this month.
Now it is time for back to school, and fall. Here, though, our "Fall" doesn't mean cooler temperatures until mid-October usually.
The after that - comes winter and the new baby!!!! We are working on getting ready for that!
and that's all - for now...

No More Teachers, No More Books...!!!!

This past friday was the last day of school for my Munchkin.

He was glad that the year is over.
They had an awards ceremony at the school in which he received several awards. He received a Presidential Achievement Award,
commendations on all 3 TAKS tests,

and other individual class achievements awards. We are so proud of him!!

After the ceremony, we went to lunch and ran into his girlfriend and her mom at the restaurant. We decided to take the two of them to a movie as a reward (plus it was a movie we all wanted to see). We went to the 3-D version of Up. Very cute movie - but very sad in some places (for me, at least).

Now - it's summertime - what to do, what to do!!!! I think that is the thing I miss most about being in school - SUMMER VACATION!!!
Oh - to be young again!!!

Mother Nature

I don't know about anyone else, but I am definitely ready for this weather to quit playing games with us. We have had some beautiful, warm weather lately, with just a little rain (which we sorely needed) and Mother Nature has decided to play a trick on us one last time. Hopefully this is the last time. We have been having temperatures in the 80's for the past couple of weeks. Last night, though, the temperature dropped into the 30's. I woke up to a frost covered lawn and a sore throat.

I am ready for the summer!
I want to be able to spend time at the beach or the river or in the woods without worrying about what the next days weather is going to be like.
I know that the summers here are sweltering, but if I didn't like it - I wouldn't choose to live here! I like the warmer weather!
Spring is a beautiful season - but around here is doesn't last very long. I am somewhat grateful for this fact because when the trees start budding out and the pollen fills the air, my hayfever runs rampant.

Once the blooms have all run their course and the weather starts to get some heat to it, then it is my time to shine!
No more worrying about when the next cold front is going to hit us.
No more hating the rain - I love warm summer rain showers!
No more jackets!
Just plenty of time to enjoy the heat and the longer days!
~~~waiting for summer~~~
