Happy 4th!

I had the honor of being stationed in Washington, D.C. for a couple of years. I fondly remember watching the Fourth of July fireworks display from the roof of our building across the river. i would consider these to be the best seats in the house! The shows were definitely something I will always remember.

Remember what the day celebrates - our freedom.

Please remember those who help protect this freedom!

Wildflower Walks

I am back from my vacation! I had a wonderful time visiting my family. The trip there is a long one - but worth it. I just wish I was able to do it more often. I am starting slow with my posts upon my return to real life.

When I was visiting my parents at their cabin, we went on several walks. I took some pictures of some flowers and other nature-type things!

(just to see how they would turn out)

The flowers remind me of when I was little and we used to visit my Grandparents at their cabin just a few miles up the road. There were so many wild flowers that my sisters and I would go on walks and come home with "bouquets" for our mom and grandma. Our grandma had several old perfume bottles that we would use for vases. We would put our arrangements on the table outside usually. This is just one of the many wonderful memories I have about the cabin that I can (sorta) relive with these new nature walks.

I just wish I had a little perfume bottle!

*** More vacation posts to come!

No More Teachers, No More Books...!!!!

This past friday was the last day of school for my Munchkin.

He was glad that the year is over.
They had an awards ceremony at the school in which he received several awards. He received a Presidential Achievement Award,
commendations on all 3 TAKS tests,

and other individual class achievements awards. We are so proud of him!!

After the ceremony, we went to lunch and ran into his girlfriend and her mom at the restaurant. We decided to take the two of them to a movie as a reward (plus it was a movie we all wanted to see). We went to the 3-D version of Up. Very cute movie - but very sad in some places (for me, at least).

Now - it's summertime - what to do, what to do!!!! I think that is the thing I miss most about being in school - SUMMER VACATION!!!
Oh - to be young again!!!

Memorial Day

Let us remember all who are serving and have served in all branches of our armed forces on this Memorial Day. They shall not be forgotten.

We salute you!

My week

As it has been quite a while since I have posted here, I figured I could write a little about what has gone on during this busy week.
was the usual busy, but uneventful, day.

was not quite as uneventful. I got a call from the school nurse saying that my munchkin had thrown up in class, but was feeling a little better. He had mentioned that his stomach was hurting earlier that morning, but he didn't seem too worried about it at the time. So I had to run up to the school to pick him up. He came back to work with me and spent the day being my helper. I could tell, though, that he was not feeling up to par when he laid down on the floor face down and fell asleep for almost an hour. He was still feeling a little bad when we got home, but thankfully - no more throwing up.

started out normal. I did decide to keep my munchkin home from school because I could tell he was still not feeling well. His dad stayed home with him. When I got home that evening, he was obviously feeling much better. I think his dad cured him by playing video games with him! (the magic cure! lol) We decided to go out for dinner and a movie - something we hadn't done in a few years. For dinner - we went to Waffle House! LOVE IT! It had been a long while since any one of us had gone there. For the movie - we went to see X-Men Origins:Wolverine (Hugh Jackman = nice). The movie was good - but not as good as we were expecting. During the previews, the guys decided that they wanted to see EVERY movie which had a trailer before the movie. (I have to agree with some - maybe even all - the trailers made them look REALLY good). We all slept good after the long evening.

my baby and I had appointments in the morning and the afternoon. The morning appointment went well. After it was over I took my baby back to his job site (almost an hour away) then I headed out towards where my appointment was (over an hour away in a different direction). I had a little time to kill before my appointment, so I decided to walk through the mall in the area. I just took a little ME time and walked and relaxed and did some window shopping and browsed through the book store. I then headed towards my appointment (which I only had the general location figured out). I ended up driving past it once and had to turn back around and go by it again. I ended up there 45 minutes early for my appointment, which was ok with me. It gave me extra time to fill out paperwork. The girl at the front desk and I talked about it and decided that for my needs - it was probably better if I reschedule the appointment for next Friday. So I left the office 15 minutes before my original appointment was to start and headed home (still an hour drive). I got home and was pretty much lazy the rest of the evening.

is still going on, but I will be much happier when the day is done. I am ready for my 3-day weekend!

Scared out of my wits...

I don't know about anyone else, but one of my biggest fears is something bad happening to my munchkin. I think that this is a pretty primitive and basic instinct in any parent. Last night, I had probably the biggest scare I have ever had. I got a phone call not long after I got home - which I missed because my cell was buried in the bottom of my purse. Just as I got to it - it was a "missed call". No sooner than I had put the phone down - it rang again - same number as before. I answered & heard such a loud commotion on the other end - I couldn't make anything out... then I heard my munchkin over all the other noises - crying.... the words I heard on the other end sent such a chill up my spine that everything stopped for what seemed to be an eternity...
"Momma - we were just in a wreck."
I could hear so many loud noises - I wasn't sure if I heard him correctly, (even though I knew I had.) We were out of the house & into the truck by the time I got off the phone. He was able to tell us through his tears where he was. I spoke with the driver too, & she told us to get to where they were. He is picked up every day from school by our next door neighbor - an older lady we have known for a while - she is my munchkins best friends grandmother. Yesterday, she had asked if he could go with her to the airport so she could drop someone off. I saw no problem with this - he runs errands with her sometimes, & this wasn't any different. They had just finished stopping for ice cream & were headed back home when they were rear-ended. A large SUV ran straight into the back of the minivan that they were in. The driver was obviously paying no attention to what was going on. Everyone in the lane had slowed down & just came to a stop when this SUV shoved them into the truck that was in front of them. When we got there - they were just pulling her out of the van. My munchkin came running up to us & broke down into tears & fell into his dads arms. I (as usual) had the "job" of getting everyone on the same page & everything coordinated - from my neighbors groceries in the van to her purse & wristwatch to give to her daughter. They wanted to check my munchkin out one more time - so he & his dad climbed up into the 'ambliance'
(when my munchkin was a baby - this is what he called the ambulance)
& got checked out...again.
In the end - he didn't ride to the hospital, but our neighbor did - but she was released later that night. She was up and moving around this morning (so that was a good sign). The thing that my munchkin said hurt the most was the finger prick when they checked his blood sugar. He is such a brave kid! I am just thankful that nobody was injured past a couple bumps & bruises!
